Marco BAROTTI olasz hangtervező Harkályok (The Woodpeckers) c. munkájában a természet, a városi környezet és a digitális technológia hármas egymásra hatását vizsgálja. A Harkályokban audiovizuális interferenciát teremt a városi környezetben található digitális eszközök (elsősorban a folyamatosan használt mobiltelefonok) és a digitális hangszerként funkcionáló „android-madarak” között. A stilizált harkályok a környezetükben érzékelt elektronikus kommunikációs eszközök és vezeték nélküli hálózatok elektromágnes sugárzását (EMR) érzékeli és alakítják át ritmus-alapú zenévé: a harkályok dob-nyelvére!

A projektet 2017-ben hozta létre BAROTTI a franciaországi Travellings Festival residency programjának részeként, a bemutatóra pedig 2018. március 18-21. között került sor a németországi Bildstörung Fesztiválon. Azóta több másik európai fesztiválon is hallhatták ezeket a harkályokat – és a budapesti installáció lesz az első alkalom, hogy szabadon engedik őket Magyarországon!

Italian sound designer Marco BAROTTI examines the three-way interaction between nature, city environment and digital technology in his piece titled Woodpeckers. In this project he induces audiovisual interference between the myriad of digital devices found in city spaces (mainly the continuously present mobile phones) and his “android birds” which all function as digital-musical instruments. The stylized woodpeckers transform the electromagnetic radiation (EMR) of nearby electronic communication devices and wireless networks into rhythm-based music: the drum language of the woodpeckers!

The project was first created in 2017 during BAROTTI’s residency at the Travellings Festival in Marseille, France, and had its premiere between 18 and 21 March 2018 as a part of the Bildstörung Festival in Detmold, Germany. The installation has been to various European festivals since then – and this will be the first time the woodpeckers are let free in Hungary!
