Mobility Garden by Jody Wood is a portable living system that investigates how food and community care can be sustained under conditions of instability. Built as a mobile, interactive sculpture, it brings together fermentation and composting in a living system where organic matter and food knowledge are continuously transformed through cycles of preservation and decay.
The piece is developed through community knowledge sharing, and Mobility Garden invites visitors to actively contribute to, care for, consume, and remix its elements. Fermentation explores what communities choose to preserve and why, while composting looks at what happens when preservation fails, treating decay as a natural process that also needs care and attention.
The project requests and reflects temporary social networks under conditions of increased precarity and examines local-mobile strategies for survival.
First developed in collaboration with Sigrids Stue Art Platform in Aarhus, Denmark, the project circulates between Denmark and Hungary, adapting to the local context while examining how temporary social networks can support resilience under conditions of increasing precarity. By exploring the relationship between mobility and local belonging, Mobility Garden imagines new strategies for collective care, survival, and ecological sustainability. Through a partnership with Cargonomia, the project connects with existing local networks to collectively shape its duration and potential afterlife.
