Luca Borsos – Máté Kőrösi: Dance the District

‘I wanna dance. Dance in public spaces. Dance in public spaces with people. Dance in public spaces with people to the same music. But not at a concert. Just like when I’m walking home, listening to my music and such a melody comes up that my steps cannot continue simply walking forward.
Dance. Dance just as it feels like. Just where the music, the streets and the other people take me. Dance in this space, in the city I live, which is mine and nobody can take it away from me.’
There are no performers in our participatory dance performance. Rather, everyone who is moving around the surrounding streets at that time is a performer. There are participants, observers, and dancing civilians who dance together for an hour to the same live-streamed music.

Maria Nasr: The princess who cried sand

The princess who cried sand is a monodrama created by Maria, Egyptian writer and actress, who is currently an asylum seeker in Hungary, living and working in Budapest.
A storyteller is telling a modern fairytale, opening boxes and windows to evermore fragile and intimate insights to her own soul. The story follows the journey of a girl, escaping her home after being abused and her life being threatened, seeking refuge in another country. The storyteller is accompanied by sand on the stage, a material that becomes a muse, a tactile invitation to immerse, and a co-performer that helps to tell the moments where words fail.
Inspired by the performer’s own life, this fairytale for adults tells the story of the struggles of fleeing and how trauma and immigration policies can steal years from the lives of people.

Directed by Napsugár Trömböczky (Hungary)

Juhász Kata Company: Wasteland

‘With an anthropomorphizing gesture in an urban environment, five dancers will undertake to move and choreographically enliven waste and garbage lying on the streets, as an ownerless, useless object and as a metaphor. We tend to involuntarily perceive the imitation of the vibrations of objects thrown around in our environment and exposed to physical effects by bodies dressed in household garbage enlarged to a human scale, as stage costumes, as a manifestation of spiritual vibrations, thus creating an emotional relationship, a “movement” that encourages active care. Social sensitivity can thus be linked to a sense of responsibility for our environment.’

Performed by Vera Bundschuh, Máté Czakó, Kata Juhász, Balázs Oláh, Vivien Piti, Máté Váth
Choreography: Kata Juhász
Concept / dramaturgy: Tamás Lóky

Dávid Somló: Ritual laboratory #5: Mass

In his five-session lecture workshop series Ritual Laboratory, Dávid Somló explores what remains—or what is missing—from community rituals in the accelerated everyday life of contemporary society. The artistic and theoretical starting point for this shared reflection is Byung-Chul Han’s book The Disappearance of Rituals, while its practical form is inspired by elements of Somló’s participatory art practice.
The 5th session of the Ritual Laboratory uses the transitional zones of Boráros Square as a site of contrast. Here, everyday movement and anonymous flow meet a consciously cultivated ritual presence. Through simple, collective actions and shared movement, the participant can explore how being together can generate a sense of cohesion, attentiveness, and even protection within an otherwise fragmented urban environment.
