“Glissando” (the sliding sound in music) is a community sound performance composed for 30 ice-skating participants. In Somló Dávid’s latest work, the ice skaters follow simple, minimalist choreography instructions to create a fluid, hypnotic movement composition. The performance’s music is played through 30 portable speakers worn by the participants, allowing the ice skaters to create a continuously swirling, unique soundscape collectively.
The ice skaters’ flowing movements, in harmony with the multi-speaker music, create a meditative and playful community experience. During the process, the participants receive simple instructions through headphones, which they follow as they immerse themselves in the fluid motion of ice-skating, while the choreography almost creates itself.
No previous performance experience is required to participate in the choreography—anyone who can ice-skate steadily in a circle can join!
