PLACCC Festival launched the Artist as Curator initiative in 2023 with the aim of making the programme selection more horizontal by including at least one project each year which is proposed by artist(s) who regularly collaborate with PLACCC.
Last year, Ziggurat Project company invited Superfusion colelctive with their performance On schedule, this year Scenescape Drama Club was invited to collaborate at the recommendation of Napsugár Trömböczky, a member of the SVUNG Research Group and the Femini duo.
The drama group provides opportunities of free artistic expression for participants with migrant backgrounds, and their Every Brilliant Thing series explores Duncan Macmillan’s monologue of the same name in a ‘home theatre’ format. The performers from Egypt, Jordan, Peru, Mongolia and France host the audience in their own homes.
Every Brilliant Thing is a one-person play by Duncan Macmillan. The story explores themes of mental health, depression and the power of small joys in life. The play is known for its uplifting and heartwarming approach, blending humour and poignancy and inviting the audience to reflect on the simple yet profound moments that make life meaningful. Its interactive format and intimate storytelling make it a unique theatrical experience that resonates deeply with viewers.
The format of home theatre is chosen to be used in our performances to enhance the play’s intimate and personal nature. The familiar environment emphasizes the play’s theme of finding joy in everyday life. Hosting the play in a home setting fosters a sense of community, encouraging shared experiences and open dialogue on mental health.
Scenescape Drama Club members:
This is a group of migrants and Hungarians connected by art and a sense of community. Maria founded the group in February 2024 with the support of HRCA and Now KALUNBA non-profit Kft as an initiative to empower the migration community in Hungary and provide a safe environment for them to express themselves using the techniques of art therapy, theatre of oppressed, physical theatre, impro theatre, storytelling and other acting techniques.
Gabs always loved to see stories come alive on stage back home in Peru, but she felt too shy to participate. In Budapest, she decided that life was too short not to do that, so she is practising acting now.
Mako is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Communications and Media at BCE. She is originally from Mongolia, holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations, and has extensive project and partnership management experience. At the same time, Mako has always been passionate about exploring various art forms. She previously challenged her musical abilities by playing the guitar and learning the drums. Now, she is embarking on an acting journey to delve deeper into this artistic aspect of her life.
Raed Tabani is a wandering soul from Jordan who is curious about life in its various forms of expression; performing arts is one, and he is an eternal lover of nature and adventure.
Michael from France has always been passionate about the written form of artistic expression, whether through reading literature, writing poems, songs or short stories, and an interest in theatre. After producing live shows for a few years, he recently engaged in theatre improvisation workshops. This play will be his first appearance on the stage.
Maria is an Egyptian artist passionate about theatre, especially community theatre, where social issues are presented. She participated in may plays in Egypt as an actress and a writer. After she was forced to escape Egypt, her focus shifted to working with Refugees and Migrants to provide a safe shelter for them. She volunteered with many NGO’s that support refugees in Hungary. She formed this collective to create an alternative art scene where every ethnicity, age, language, etc, is accepted. She runs this collective voluntarily, and she has big dreams for it.

The location of the performances will communicated after the ticket purchase via email.
The play’s length will vary between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on how each performer adapts the text to their capacity.
The maximum number of audience varies between 10 and 20 pers / performance.
